Backbar

Backbar is an upscale craft cocktail bar established in 2011 in Union Square, Somerville, hidden behind a nearly unmarked orange door in an alley. The intimate 39-seat venue is known for artistic libations featuring fresh, local, and seasonal ingredients, from whimsical twists on milk punch to drinks highlighting obscure spirits. Boston Magazine named it the number one bar in Boston, and Time Out magazine recognized it among the coolest bars in the world. The bar is open Wednesday through Sunday from 5 PM to midnight, with last seating at 11:15 PM. Service is walk-in only, first-come-first-serve, with no reservations available. Groups larger than four may experience wait times. Beyond cocktails, they offer beer, wine, non-alcoholic cocktails, and bookable spirit tastings and cocktail classes through Tock.
