Bodega Dunes Campground
Bodega Bay, CA
Bodega Dunes is the main campground at Sonoma Coast State Park, about a mile north of Bodega Bay on Highway 1, set among cypress trees and rolling sand dunes. It has 99 drive-in sites for tents and RVs up to 31 feet, each with a picnic table and fire pit, plus restrooms, hot showers, and a dump station, though there are no individual hookups; a separate hiker/biker site is available walk-in without a reservation.
Trails lead from the campground through the dunes to South Salmon Creek Beach and Bodega Head, a good coastal walk after a run up Highway 1, though swimming isn't recommended because of dangerous currents and cold water. Sites can be reserved up to six months in advance, and dogs are allowed in camp on leash but not on the dunes or beach.
