Boulder Basin Campground

Boulder Basin Campground is a primitive Forest Service site about 13.5 miles north of Idyllwild in the San Jacinto Ranger District of San Bernardino National Forest, near the Black Mountain fire lookout at roughly 7,300 feet elevation. It has 34 single-family sites for tents or small RVs among ponderosa and sugar pine, each with a picnic table and fire ring, and charges $10 a night plus $5 per extra vehicle. The access road, Black Mountain Road/Forest Route 4S01, is reported in poor condition and recommended only for high-clearance or four-wheel-drive vehicles, so it is not a realistic stop for a street bike. No piped water is provided on site, and wood or charcoal fires are currently restricted; the campground doubles as a base for bouldering and rock climbing right within its boundaries.
