Boulder Oaks Equestrian Campground

Boulder Oaks Equestrian Campground is a U.S. Forest Service campground in the Descanso Ranger District of the Cleveland National Forest, about an hour east of San Diego near the community of Campo. It is the only developed equestrian camp on the district, with roughly two dozen family sites and seventeen separate horse stables spread around a single loop served by vault toilets. The campground sits directly on the Pacific Crest Trail, close to where the 2,650-mile trail begins at the Mexican border, making it a common staging point for hikers and horse packers heading north. Riders passing through on Old Highway 80 will find a quiet stretch of two-lane road through high desert chaparral, though there is no piped drinking water on site, so plan to bring your own.
