Camp Ahbalufa

Located on Selvitz Road, Camp Ahbalufa—which translates from Seminole as "land by the peaceful water"—provides a secluded setting for outdoor activities and group gatherings. The 15 campsites are equipped with city water and individual fire pits, though the camp maintains a quiet, natural atmosphere by restricting vehicle access to a designated parking area. A spring-fed swimming hole with a sandy beach serves as the camp’s centerpiece, complemented by a large pavilion, an outdoor chapel, and a natural amphitheater. Nature enthusiasts will find the grounds to be a dedicated gopher tortoise sanctuary, where protected wildlife like armadillos and native birds are frequently spotted. For those looking to explore the water, canoe rentals are available for trips along the adjacent river. The camp is managed by volunteers and adheres to safety policies, including a five-mile-per-hour speed limit on its one-way road and a requirement for closed-toed footwear throughout the property. Just north of the camp, the George LeStrange Preserve offers additional recreation with loop trails around Lake Zobel and access to Ten Mile Creek. The site’s location near I-95 and Florida's Turnpike makes it a convenient stop for groups traveling through the Treasure Coast, provided they meet the reservation requirements for youth or civic organizations. Note that the facility is an alcohol-free environment and does not allow pets on the grounds.
