Camp Crystal Lake

Operated by the School Board of Alachua County, this facility serves as a residential summer camp and outdoor education hub for students throughout the year. The grounds are located between Starke and Keystone Heights, encompassing 140 acres of hardwood hammocks and sandhill ecosystems. Four of the original buildings from its time as part of the Keystone Army Air Base during World War II are still in use, including the Recreation Hall, which formerly served as the Officer's Club. While primarily dedicated to youth programs, the camp is available for group rentals on weekends from late August through mid-May. The site features ten modern cabins, each capable of housing up to 20 guests, though they are equipped with fans rather than air conditioning. The property includes three distinct lakes—Big Crystal, Little Crystal, and Mosquito Lake—providing opportunities for swimming, canoeing, and fishing in a natural North Florida setting. Visitors will find a range of recreational facilities, including an archery range, a ropes course, and various sports fields. The air-conditioned dining hall can accommodate up to 210 people, making it a central point for group gatherings and meals. The camp maintains a strict technology-free policy during its residential sessions to encourage immersion in the natural surroundings.
