Camp Far West Lake's South Shore campground sits on the Lincoln side of Camp Far West Reservoir, a roughly 2,000-acre lake with about 29 miles of shoreline in the Sierra foothills east of Sacramento. It is one of two separately run campgrounds on the lake, and the quieter of the pair, with more seasonal sites rather than the North Shore campground's full-hookup RV rows, set among oak-covered hills.
Riders passing through the area can camp lakeside with access to a boat launch, picnic tables and barbecues, piped drinking water, and a mix of wheelchair-accessible restrooms and vault toilets. The lake itself supports swimming, fishing, boating, water skiing, jet skiing, hiking and horseback riding, making it a stopover point roughly 45 miles northeast of Sacramento for anyone riding through Placer County.
