Cassel Campground

Cassel Campground is a genuine public campground operated by Pacific Gas & Electric as part of its Hat Creek recreation area in northeastern Shasta County, sitting at about 3,200 feet elevation along Hat Creek near the small community of Cassel. It is a first-come, first-served facility with 27 sites for RVs, trailers, and tents, plus drinking water and vault toilets, run under a utility recreation program rather than a private operator. Hat Creek and the nearby Crystal Lake and Baum Lake are well known for fly fishing, and hiking trails fan out from the area. It is a solid basecamp for riders working the northeastern California backroads, sitting about twelve miles from McArthur-Burney Falls Memorial State Park and roughly thirty-four miles from Lassen Volcanic National Park.
