Cook's Station

31950 State Highway 88, Pioneer, CA

Cook's Station is a historic roadside stop on State Route 88 in the Sierra Nevada, at 31950 State Highway 88 in Pioneer, sitting at about 5,000 feet elevation in Amador County. The site dates to 1863, built along the Volcano cutoff of the old Carson Emigrant Trail, and is one of only two surviving stations from the many that once lined that route over Carson Pass. Today it operates as a combined campground, RV park and restaurant, making it a natural break point for a rider climbing Highway 88 toward Kirkwood and the Carson Pass, with more than 160 years of continuous roadside-stop history behind it.
