Engine Braking

Engine braking is the slowing that happens when you roll off the throttle while still in gear and the engine's internal resistance drags on the drivetrain.

What is engine braking? Engine braking is the slowing that happens when you roll off the throttle while still in gear and the engine's internal resistance drags on the drivetrain. Riders use it constantly on descents and approaching curves. The thing to remember is that it does not light your brake light, so a rider slowing hard on engine braking alone gives the vehicle behind them no warning.
