French Meadows Campground

French Meadows Campground sits on French Meadows Reservoir in Tahoe National Forest, about 40 miles up a remote mountain road from Foresthill, California, with no services available along the way or on site. Following a full redesign completed in 2025, the U.S. Forest Service campground now offers 63 sites, each with a picnic table, fire ring, and food locker, and accommodates RVs up to 85 feet.
It operates from late May through mid-October at $24 per night, and the reservoir supports powerboating, kayaking, canoeing, fishing, and hiking, though firearms and archery are prohibited within the surrounding game refuge. Riders heading in should top off fuel beforehand, since the winding approach road offers no services.
