The friction zone is the narrow band of clutch lever travel where the clutch is partly engaged — passing some power to the rear wheel but not all of it.
What is the friction zone? The friction zone is the narrow band of clutch lever travel where the clutch is partly engaged — passing some power to the rear wheel but not all of it. Every slow-speed maneuver lives there: parking lots, U-turns, walking pace in a rally crowd, creeping in stopped traffic. Riders who struggle to place a bike at low speed are usually fighting the throttle instead of working the friction zone against a little rear brake.
