Highland Lakes Campground
Alpine County, CA, CA
Highland Lakes Campground sits at 8,600 feet in an alpine valley just below Ebbetts Pass in the Stanislaus National Forest, reached via a narrow, steep 5.6-mile dirt road off Highway 4 in Alpine County, California. The campground has 35 first-come, first-served sites with picnic tables and fire rings but no hookups, and a seasonal hand pump is the only on-site water source.
The lakes offer fishing, boating, and swimming, and several trailheads near the campground lead into the Carson-Iceberg Wilderness. It typically operates from late May through October depending on snowpack, and the Calaveras Ranger Station at (209) 795-1381 can confirm road and water conditions before a trip.
