Hoegees Campground

Hoegees Trail Camp is a hike-in campground in Big Santa Anita Canyon in the Angeles National Forest near Arcadia, California, reached on foot from the Chantry Flat trailhead rather than by vehicle. The historic camp sits along Santa Anita Creek in a canyon long used by hikers heading toward Sturtevant Camp and the surrounding backcountry. The canyon was closed for extended stretches after the Bobcat and Eaton wildfires burned parts of the Angeles National Forest, and Hoegees reopened along with other Big Santa Anita Canyon trails and sites in spring 2026. Riders can stage at Chantry Flat and hike in; conditions can still change with weather and ongoing forest recovery, so checking current Angeles National Forest alerts before a trip is worthwhile.
