Horse Flats Campground

Horse Flats Campground is a U.S. Forest Service site in the Angeles National Forest, reached off Angeles Forest Highway near the Chilao area northeast of La Canada Flintridge. The campground sits among pine cover at higher elevation and offers 26 first-come, first-served campsites, along with equestrian corrals and hitching posts that reflect its long history as a horse camp. The campground operates seasonally, typically from April through mid-November, and can close temporarily for weather or road conditions; travelers should check current Angeles National Forest alerts before a trip, since parts of the forest have seen wildfire-related closures in recent years. When open, it connects to the Silver Moccasin National Recreation Trail and nearby mountain biking routes, making it a quiet basecamp along the Angeles Crest corridor.
