Kern River Sandy Flat Campground
Bakersfield, CA
Sandy Flat Campground is a Sequoia National Forest campground on the Lower Kern River near Lake Isabella, distinct from the nearby Fairview and Hobo campgrounds along the same river. It offers 35 family sites, including six walk-in sites, arranged along a single loop dotted with large granite boulders, plus drinking water, vault toilets, picnic areas and a raft and kayak launch. The campground operates year-round and can be reserved through Recreation.gov.
The setting draws hikers, trout anglers and whitewater paddlers, and the short Hobo Fishing Trail runs nearby along the river. For motorcyclists riding the Kern River Canyon corridor toward Kernville and the southern Sierra, Sandy Flat is a currently operating, reservable public campground rather than a roadside pull-off, making it a dependable overnight stop on that route.
