Kirk Creek Campground
1 Highway 1, Carmel-by-the-Sea, CA
Kirk Creek Campground is a 33-site oceanside campground on the Big Sur coast in Los Padres National Forest, sitting directly off Highway 1 on a grassy bluff more than 100 feet above the Pacific. Every site looks out over the ocean, and the campground has picnic tables, fire rings and restrooms, though there are no hookups or piped water; 31 sites are reservable up to six months ahead through Recreation.gov, with two held first-come, first-served.
The location makes it a landmark stop on a Highway 1 motorcycle run through Big Sur: Sand Dollar Beach is about five miles south, and Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park and McWay Falls are roughly seventeen miles north. Its exposed, treeless bluff setting means little shelter from coastal wind, so riders should plan gear accordingly.
