Lake Cuyamaca Recreation and Park District operates camping and fishing around Lake Cuyamaca, a 110-acre stocked lake set at about 4,600 feet in oak and pine forest along Highway 79 near the Julian and Descanso area of San Diego County. The district runs multiple camping areas around the shoreline, including Chambers Park and Lone Pine, offering everything from walk-in tent sites to RV sites with hookups, with a roughly two-week maximum stay before a required 30-day gap.
Fishing is the lake's main draw: it is stocked with trout and also holds Florida-strain bass, smallmouth bass, channel catfish, and sturgeon, with permits required in addition to a California fishing license for anyone 16 or older. Chambers Park adds coin-operated showers, a bait and snack shop, a playground, and a tetherball court, making the district a full day-trip or overnight stop for anglers and campers heading through the Cuyamaca mountains.
