Lookout Campground
Dog Valley Rd, East Sierra, CA
Lookout Campground is a Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest campground on the California side of the Nevada border, just west of Reno at the end of an 8.5-mile dirt road, Forest Road 002, off Dog Valley Road. It has 17 first-come, first-served sites including two double sites, plus a reservable group picnic area for up to 100 people, with vault toilets, fire rings, and picnic tables at each site.
Set at 6,770 feet in a large aspen grove near Crystal Peak, the campground is a rugged, backroad destination popular with riders exploring the Dog Valley and Peavine Mountain OHV and mountain biking trails. The unmaintained sections of the access road have ruts and loose rock, so it suits riders comfortable on unpaved terrain.
