Loon Lake Camp

Roseville, CA

Loon Lake Campground is a high-Sierra campground in the Crystal Basin area of the Eldorado National Forest, about 29 miles up Ice House Road from Highway 50, at roughly 6,500 feet elevation near Lake Tahoe's western edge. It includes three group sites, two holding up to 25 people and one up to 50, with picnic tables, grills, fire rings, and bear-proof food lockers, and firewood is sold on site. The surrounding Crystal Basin is known for boating, fishing for rainbow and brown trout, hiking, and horseback riding, and the famous 18-mile Rubicon Jeep Trail begins nearby. Note that the campground itself sits in the Sierra Nevada near Ice House Road, well east of Roseville; reservations run through Recreation.gov starting four days to six months ahead of a stay.
