Bars & Saloons
Mean Eyed Cat
1621 W 5th St, Austin, TX
Mean Eyed Cat is a Johnny Cash tribute dive bar on West 5th Street in Austin, built inside a former chainsaw repair shop and turned into a bar in 2004 by owner Chris Marsh, who named it after the Cash song of the same title. The interior is packed with chainsaws and Cash memorabilia, and the bar pours a solid rotation of local and craft drafts alongside a full bar and cocktail list.
The real draw for a rider is the open wooden patio, shaded by a Texas live oak that is said to be more than 300 years old, plus a barbecue menu from Do Rite BBQ for anyone who wants food with their drink. It is dog friendly and sits close to the West 6th Street corridor, making it an easy add on stop before or after the busier bars nearby.
