Mt. Whitney and Lone Pine Campgrounds

Whitney Portal Campground is a U.S. Forest Service campground in the Inyo National Forest, about 13 miles west of Lone Pine, California on Whitney Portal Road, at roughly 8,000 feet elevation in a pine forest along a creek. It has 43 campsites, including group and tent-only areas, and sits half a mile from the Mount Whitney trailhead. The campground has paved roads, vault toilets, drinking water and bear-proof food storage lockers, with firewood and a small store with showers available nearby. Lone Pine Campground, a separate Forest Service campground also with 43 sites, is located about six miles down the same road.
