Onion Valley Campground is a U.S. Forest Service campground in the Inyo National Forest at the end of Onion Valley Road, about 14 miles west of Independence, California, at an elevation of roughly 9,200 feet. It sits along a creek amid granite peaks near the John Muir Wilderness boundary. The campground has 10 sites, including two tent-only sites, with eight able to accommodate RVs and trailers between 16 and 25 feet; amenities include vault toilets, bear-proof food lockers and on-site firewood for sale. It is typically open from mid-May to mid-October, with reservable sites starting around $27 a night, and serves as a trailhead for the Kearsarge Pass Trail leading toward the John Muir Trail.
