Portuguese Joe Campground is a small county-run campground along Tuttle Creek just west of Lone Pine, California, on land owned by the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power and operated by Inyo County Parks and Recreation. It is reached via Whitney Portal Road and Tuttle Creek Road off U.S. 395, placing it near the Alabama Hills National Scenic Area and the Mt. Whitney Portal at the base of the eastern Sierra escarpment. The campground has 20 creekside sites with vault toilets, potable water, picnic tables, grills, and fire rings, but no RV hookups, dump station, or showers, and a maximum RV length of 30 feet. Most sites are reservable, a few remain first-come first-served, and anglers can fish Tuttle Creek with a valid California fishing license.
