What are rumble strips? Rumble strips are the milled grooves cut into the edge line or centerline of a road to wake a drifting driver. In a car they are a noise; on a motorcycle they are a hard, wandering jolt through the bars that can unsettle the bike, particularly mid-corner or when leaned over. On roads with centerline strips, riders usually plan a lane position that keeps them well clear.
