Salt Springs Recreation Area

Salt Springs Recreation Area is a premier outdoor destination centered around a second-magnitude spring that gushes approximately 52 million gallons of water daily. The spring maintains a constant 74-degree temperature year-round and contains natural minerals including magnesium, potassium, and sodium, which give the water a slight salinity. Visitors frequently stop here to swim and snorkel in the crystal-clear pool, where blue crabs and striped bass are often visible among the underwater vents. As the most extensive campground in the Ocala National Forest, the facility provides 162 sites, including the only full-hookup RV spots available within the forest's boundaries. The campground is designed with paved sites and shaded tent areas that are tucked away from the more active day-use sections, ensuring a quiet atmosphere for travelers. The semi-tropical landscape of palms and pines provides a lush backdrop for those staying overnight. Beyond the water, the recreation area offers land-based activities with direct access to the Salt Springs Trail, the Bear Swamp Trail, and a segment of the 1,400-mile Florida National Scenic Trail. For those looking to explore the waterways, an unimproved boat launch provides access to Salt Springs Run, which flows into Lake George.
