The sweep is the last rider in the group, whose job is to make sure nobody is left behind.
What is the sweep on a group ride? The sweep is the last rider in the group, whose job is to make sure nobody is left behind. If a rider stops for a breakdown or a missed turn, the sweep stops with them while the rest continue. It is a responsibility, not a demotion, and it usually goes to an experienced rider who is comfortable riding alone if the group gets away.
