The Tavern

The Tavern is a longtime Austin bar and grill at 922 W 12th Street, operating out of a building dating to 1916 that has functioned as a bar since 1933 — making it one of the older continuously running taverns in the city. It's owned by Michael Shelton and Shannon Sedwick of the Esther's Follies theater group, with a kitchen led by Chef Ana Stewart turning out comfort food and pub fare from local ingredients. The two-story space has a dog-friendly deck, two full bars pouring craft beer and seasonal cocktails, and 46 TVs with surround sound for game days. It's also known locally for its resident ghost, Emily, tied to the building's Prohibition-era history.
