Redwood Highway

The Redwood Highway, a US-101 segment running 192 miles from Leggett to Crescent City, winds through stands of the world's tallest trees exceeding 350 feet. The route delivers flowing curves following natural terrain through forest groves. Dense canopy overhead keeps temperatures cool. Riding involves long sections of consistent curves with pavement following creek drainages and ridge lines. Elevation changes remain moderate, but sustained curve sections demand concentration. The forest canopy creates variable lighting and occasional wet pavement even during dry weather. Fuel and food services cluster in small towns including Fortuna, Myers Flat, and Scotia. May through October offers ideal riding; winter rains make pavement slick. The route passes through multiple state parks and national forests with numerous pullouts.
