FM 1431: Lake Travis Canyon

FM 1431 runs 66 miles through central Texas hill country. The prized section between Jonestown and Marble Falls traverses the Balcones Canyonlands north of Lake Travis with sweeping curves, elevation changes, and open lake views. After Lago Vista, the road transitions to consistent two-lane highway with increasing curvature following the north side of Lake Travis. The ride features high-speed sweepers and technical curves with well-maintained asphalt and multiple elevation transitions. Traffic is moderate and lighter on weekdays. Services are available in Jonestown, Lago Vista, and Marble Falls. This route was ranked #4 in Ride Texas magazine's 2003 readers' poll. Spring and fall offer ideal riding conditions. Use this route as a connector or day-trip segment rather than a full-day tour.
