Newfound Gap Road (US Route 441) cuts through the heart of Great Smoky Mountains National Park, connecting Gatlinburg, Tennessee (876 feet elevation) to Cherokee, North Carolina. The 36-mile route climbs from low river valleys to cool fog-laced elevations near 6,043 feet at Newfound Gap before descending into the next Appalachian basin. The road features full corkscrew switchbacks with flawless pavement and continuous elevation gain and loss. Riders enjoy free passage through the National Park with no fuel stations available inside the park boundary. This is the highest transportation corridor in Tennessee.
