Scenic Byway 12 (UT-12)

Scenic Byway 12 stretches 122 miles across southern Utah, designated as an All-American Road for its unique features found nowhere else. The route connects Panguitch on the west to Torrey on the northeast, linking Bryce Canyon and Capitol Reef National Parks. The byway showcases remarkable geographic diversity including red rock canyons, the famous Hogsback hairpin turns between Escalante and Boulder, aspen and pine forests, and elevation changes reaching approximately 9,000 feet. The Hogsback section is 27 miles of narrow ridge-top driving with extreme drop-offs on both sides—reportedly the highest road without guardrails in the U. S. with 1,000-foot drop-offs just feet from the shoulders. The road rides along the narrow crest of a ridge where at times the ridge is no wider than the road itself, providing an intense riding experience with unparalleled vistas.
