Tail of the Armadillo

Tail of the Armadillo is a Hill Country loop starting in Bandera ('Cowboy Capital of the World') and routing through Kerrville, Medina, and Vanderpool. The loop incorporates multiple roads through rolling ranch terrain with elevation changes and curves ranging from sweeping to technical. Lost Maples State Natural Area provides scenic access, and smaller towns offer rural riding through ranching country. Road surfaces are generally well-maintained with a mix of state highways and ranch roads. Spring brings wildflowers and moderate temperatures, while fall offers cooler conditions. Services are available in each anchor town, making day trips feasible. The loop works as a full-day touring experience. This loop supports extended touring or split-day rides with overnight stops.
