Oregon Highway 82 Wallowa Valley

Oregon Highway 82 provides through the Wallowa Valley with excellent views of the Wallowa Mountains, including the Matterhorn peak, Eagles Cap, and the Wallowa valley landscape. The route winds along the river in many places with great sweeping turns on 55-mph speed-limit roads, though riders often cruise faster on good pavement. Starting in Joseph with shops, restaurants, and bars, the route passes through Enterprise (Safeway, gas, dining) before reaching Elgin and descending toward La Grande. The route parallels the Wallowa River then the Grande Ronde River before climbing a minor pass into Elgin. Pavement is generally well-maintained with few rough spots. Joseph hosts a motorcycle rendezvous the third weekend in August with all bikes welcome, though reservations need to be made almost a year in advance for accommodation.
