Peak to Peak Scenic Byway is a 55-mile National Forest Scenic Byway in Gilpin, Boulder, and Larimer counties within an hour of Denver, Boulder, or Fort Collins. Originally built in 1918 as Colorado's first scenic highway, the route traverses State Routes 7, 72, and 119 through forested mountain slopes. The byway follows trails originally used by Native Americans, fur traders, and gold miners. The route features two lanes with fantastic Continental Divide vistas.
A mecca for riders, the route features technical curves and smooth pavement. Elevations stay around 8,000-9,000 feet. The curves are numerous and varied with technical hairpins alternating with sweeping turns. At the southern end, historic gold rush towns of Black Hawk and Central City offer casinos and cultural attractions.
Spring and fall offer optimal conditions with moderate temperatures and clear skies.
