Bellingham's Mt Baker Road

Bellingham, WA

57-mile route from Bellingham through Cascades to Mt Baker with 30 miles of sweepers and 15 miles of alpine hairpins.

57Miles
Starting from Bellingham via WA Route 542, this 57-mile route progresses through fair scenery initially that improves significantly after Deming. Long sweeping high-speed curves continue through Maple Falls and Glacier for about 30 miles, then transition to lots of hairpins and great scenery during the final 15-mile mountain climb to Mt Baker base. The Mt Baker summit parking lot offers scenic views of Mt Baker and Mt Shuksan. Fuel stops include gas stations at Nooksack, Deming, the Highway 9/542 junction, Maple Falls, and Glacier. Reviewers note smooth pavement throughout and recommend riding on weekdays to avoid summer traffic. The road stays shaded for much of its length, making it pleasant during warm months.
