Highway 20 through North Cascades National Park is 87 miles from Marblemount to Winthrop, with 65 miles of old growth forest through the park's alpine vistas. The route climbs from sea level to 8,000 feet with wide sweeping curves and smooth pavement on the western portions, featuring the dramatic Horseshoe hairpin turn at Washington Pass (5,477 feet elevation). Over 40 waterfalls can be viewed from the road. Multiple pullouts with overlooks provide rest stops. This is a very twisty road with consistent elevation changes and excellent pavement quality, though rock falling hazards and deer crossing warnings apply. The eastern section from Washington Pass to Winthrop features faster speeds and open scenery.
