Rattlesnake Pass to Wallowa Lake

Asotin, WA

98-mile technical mountain crossing from Asotin through 87-mile fuel gap; dozens of tight curves hugging steep walls above Grande Ronde River valley.

This 98-mile route follows Highway 129 from the Lewiston/Clarkston area south into Oregon, starting in Asotin. Extensive tightness throughout features dozens of tight curves hugging very steep walls through the Grande Ronde River valley, with gravel and fallen rocks on inside corners nearest cliff walls. The map can be deceiving when showing straight road where riding proves otherwise. Scenery transitions from grasslands to dense forest with views of Hells Canyon, the Wallowa Mountains, and Eagles Cap Peak. Critical: NO gas from Asotin to Enterprise (87 miles), so fuel completely before departing. Mid-route Grogan's Oasis offers food and drinks. Enterprise offers amenities before reaching Joseph, a tourist town. Road quality is generally good with excellent pavement in Oregon sections.
