Hurricane Ridge Road in Olympic National Park is a 17-mile ascent from downtown Port Angeles following S. Race Street which becomes Mt. Angeles Road before Hurricane Ridge Road angles right toward the summit. Riders pay a park fee approximately 5 miles along the route. As the road winds higher, views open up through deep, dark valleys rising through subalpine meadows and stunted trees to barren ridges and stoney peaks. The summit parking lot offers panoramic 270-degree views toward Mt. Carrie and the snows and ramparts of Mount Olympus. The route features lots of curves and long humps described as a ribbon of riding euphoria cut into a mountainside. Smooth, creamy asphalt appears swept clean regularly. Timing is advised to avoid congestion from slow-moving vehicles.
