Mt Rainier Ramble

Elbe, WA

70-mile loop around Mount Rainier's foothills featuring sharp switchbacks and views of the 14,411-foot glacier-covered volcano.

70Miles
This 70-mile loop showcases Mount Rainier, a 14,411-foot dormant volcano with a distinctive dome-shaped peak completely glaciated. Starting from Elbe, riders encounter rivers, lakes, canyons, and waterfalls contrasted against dark volcanic rock. The route features plenty of zigs and zags with long climbs through civilized turns and sweeping corners, with particularly sharp switchbacks near Stevens Canyon. Narada Falls (168-foot drop), Reflection Lakes, and Emmons Glacier views are highlights. The Paradise and Sunrise areas within the park offer stopping points. Pavement is generally good though occasional rocks and shadows can obscure potholes in certain sections. The Cayuse Pass section is noted as particularly exciting.
