59Miles
Travel Highway 395 west from Pendleton through Pilot Rock, then take Highway 74 west to Heppner for a 59-mile sport touring route. Highway 74 is recently paved and offers rolling hills while dropping into a canyon through farmland with twisty roads. The route features many twists and turns as well as climbs and descents with a variety of corners—from slow and tight to long and fast. Blind corners can suddenly become slow tight corners, requiring rider attention. An alternative routing through the Blue Mountain and Elkhorn Scenic Byways offers well-maintained forestry roads with very little traffic, though riders should watch fuel levels as there are very few stations. Heppner has an RV park allowing tent camping, a supermarket for food and refreshments, and various dining options. Watch fuel levels accordingly.
